    Stratovarius早期的音乐与如今差别甚大，在那个时候乐队深受Black Sabbath和O☆☆☆ Osbourne的影响，而吉他手Staffan为乐队引进了古典音乐元素。随后贝斯手John在84年年底离开乐队为Jyrki Lentonen所取代，Jyrki先前与T imo Tolkki一起在一个名为Road Block的乐队表演。

    Stratovarius成立于1984年，由三个来自芬兰、赫尔辛基的三个年轻人组成，他们分别是鼓手兼主唱Tuomo Lassila，贝斯手John Vihervaauml以及吉他手Staffan Straaringahlman。
    98年10月，Stratovarius发行了他们第七张录音室作品、也是迄今为止最成功的一张作品 - 《Destiny》。专辑特别是在芬兰取得了巨大的成功，在那里，《Destiny》上了排行榜的头名STRATOVARIUS发行了。专辑席卷了欧洲、日本，并在南美也取得相当的成功。在他们的故乡芬兰，这张专辑更是登上排行榜冠军，复古传奇变态版，在T OP 10停留了6个月之久，并取得了金唱片的销量。98年11月，名为“The Destiny Worl d Tour”的巡演全面展开，圣诞节前的地点在芬兰和日本。巡演持续到99年4月初，遍及 20多个国家。
